All dental implants in use today are made from surgically pure titanium, which is well tolerated and integrates easily into bone, without being rejected.
A dental implant is essentially a surgical substitute for a natural tooth. They are commonly 'cylindrical' in shape and are inserted into a socket to replace a missing tooth.
Implants provide support for individual crowns, bridges, or for the stabilisation of loose dentures. Once an implant has integrated into the surrounding bone (normally take 3-6 months), the final crowns, bridges or dentures can be fitted over them.
A dental assessment is required to determine patient suitability for impants and check for adequate bone levels. Bone-grafting procedures can be used in cases of poor bone-levels.
