Nose Reshaping, Men

There are many reasons men undertake nose re-shaping. Countless years of enduring sports injuries can take its toll on a persons nose and corrective surgery can fix the damage.

You may simply want to improve the size and shape of the nose you were born with. We understand that whatever your reasons, you need to talk through your options and know what to expect.

Nose re-shaping (or rhinoplasty), can increase or decrease the size of the nose and the shape can also change. It is important to know what you dislike about your nose and the improvements that you would like to see made. Talking to a consultant cosmetic surgeon will help you understand what is possible and realistic to achieve.

What is Involved?

The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and you will usually need to stay in hospital overnight or longer, depending on the extent of the procedure. In an operation to reduce the size of the nose, the surgeon will make cuts inside your nostrils.

The shape of your nose will then be created by partially removing and re-shaping the bone and cartilage. The skin over your nose will shrink down to the new shape. In an operation to increase the size of the nose, the surgeon may use additional bone or cartilage to build up the nose.

The cuts inside or between your nostrils are closed up with dissolvable stitches. Your nose may be filled with surgical packing to help control any bleeding. You may also have small pieces of soft plastic inside your nose to prevent scar tissue from forming.

Post-Op Effects – Recovery

Following your operation you will have dressings in each nostril and a splint over your nose to hold the bones in position. The dressings are removed after about a day and you may have some minor bleeding from the nose. Your splint will have to stay in place for up to two weeks.

Your face and nose will swell, and there will be bruising around the eyes, which can take up to a month to completely disappear. Breathing through the nose will become easier as the swelling reduces but your nose may feel slightly numb for a few months.

You don’t need to take time from work to recover from the procedure but you may find it more comfortable to recover at home for a few days while your nose and swelling settles.
